Galvalume is a coated metal product used for commercial, agricultural and residential applications to emulate galvanized steel. Galvalume metal has a matte finish that lends itself to industrial, modern, and rustic projects that require a little more subtlety than traditional, shiny, or spangled galvanized metal panels. Use Galvalume metal for sophisticated accents on office buildings, rustic and modern homes, or in industrial style restaurants.
Galvalume metal roof and siding panels are coated with a mixture of zinc and aluminum and siliconized coating to help resist scuffs and fingerprints better than a bare metal product. The mixture of zinc and aluminum protects the Galvalume metal against corrosion and rust, helping Galvalume typically last much longer than Galvanized steel. Galvalume also comes with a 25-year warranty, which is something that cannot be provided with Galvanized steel.
It is important to understand that Galvalume metal will start to rust and corrode overtime. It will age naturally, creating a unique, one of a kind metal. The more unpainted metal is exposed to the elements, the more it will take on a life of its own. A Galvalume roof is durable and can outlast asphalt roofs by years.
Although Galvalume metal and Galvanized metal sound alike, they have quite a few different characteristics and qualities. Both finishes create stunning looks, reinforce metal's strength, and add to its longevity. These "metals" are both actually coatings/finishes that are applied to a steel core/panel.
Galvanized steel contains a coating of zinc oxide, which coats and protects the inner layer of steel and prevents/slows oxidation, corrosion and rusting. Galvanization is a process which has helped metal roofs and siding remain in tact for decades. The resin coating extends the life of the metal panels even further because it helps resist scuffing, scratching and other blemishes that may occur over its lifetime. Galvanized steel is one of our most common forms of steel roofing materials.
Galvalume metal is similar to Galvanized steel, but uses a coating combination of aluminum and zinc rather than just zinc. The aluminum in Galvalume metal helps to better protect the panels against corrosion in certain environments compared to Galvanized. Galvalume is a high-performing metal option for high-temperature, high-precipitation, and marine environments. A Galvalume roof also provides a smaller, smoother spangle, which helps achieve a more uniformed design. Due to aluminum's qualities, Galvalume metal offers better surface protection than Galvanized, but is more vulnerable to scratches, blemishes or cut edges.
