Corten Steel Roofing
Originally designed as a steel product not requiring paint to seal it from weather, Corten Steel has become a popular option for roofing and siding needs for aesthetic reasons in recent years. The term "Corten" is short for both corrosion resistance and tensile strength.
The way Corten Steel Roofing works is by undergoing a rusting process on the top layer, which seals in and protects the base layer of steel underneath it. The appearance of rusted metal sheets looks both stunning and completely unique. Corten Roofing is truly a stunning, one-of-a-kind look.
A popular aesthetic trend that continues to occur in mountain retreats and ranch style homes, Corten Roofing offers a unique appeal to many homeowners. In modern metal roofing applications, the trend tends to use Weathering Steel on Standing Seam roofing panels. In more rustic styled designs, we see it used more with Corrugated Metal Roofing Rusted panels.
No matter how you want to incorporate rusted metal sheet onto your home, they will produce an unmatched aesthetic. They style they provide can be combined with a variety of other style homes, including farmhouse, colonial, and more!
At Bridger Steel, we needed a product that would act like A606 Corten, but provide us with a more even and rapid patina. After testing a number of recipes, we created a slight variation to the traditional A606 Corten with our own Truten™️A606 Weathering Steel Finish.
Our product that creates a Metal Roof Rust look begins with a top layer coating made of copper, phosphorus, and silicon. This forms a textured oxide surface film on the panel. While time passes and the panels are exposed to different weather conditions, it will begin to rust into a unique, one-of-a-kind color.
One of the biggest appeals of this metal roofing rusted look is the fact that it is extremely resistant to corrosion caused by weather and other conditions. After that top coat is gone, the steel will ionize. This means the rusting will come to a halt and you will never have to worry about the panels rusting the whole way through. Instead, your rusted metal sheets will hold their look for decades to come.
Bridger Steel's Truten™️ A606 has a faster patina, which quickly locks in and protects the base steel layer, while simultaneously providing a more uniformed final product. We now offer both Corten and Truten™️ rusted metal sheets in all of our panel profiles.
The Truten™ A606 Weathering Steel finish has the exact same life expectancy as painted panels and other finishes. So you can enjoy the stunning look of rusted metal roofing or siding without worrying about its durability or longevity.
Weathering Steel starts with a dark gray appearance and as it is exposed to the elements, it begins to naturally rust. The steel is allowed to rust and that rust forms a protective coating that will help slow the rate of future corrosion. A weathering steel metal panel is unique in its constantly changing and unpredictably striking patina. Achieving a Corrugated Metal Roofing Rusted look is easy with this product!
We recommend that if you intend to install Weathering Steel as a roofing product, you take care to maintain your roof regularly, keeping it free of leaves or twigs. Being diligent to inspect your rusted metal sheets properly will have an significant impact on how long your metal roof rust product lasts.
